What Do I Need?

In order to begin flight training, you'll need to take care of the following housekeeping tasks:

1. Create an IACRA account (the FAA airman application platformat http://iacra.faa.gov).  This will allow us to help you obtain your Student Pilot Certificate.

2. Create an FAA MedXpress account (the FAA medical certification platform) at :  http://medxpress.faa.gov

3. Schedule an appointment for a Third-Class Medical examination.  We recommend Dr. Bond Browder

4. Plan on bringing either your passport or birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID to your first appointment; we have to do some citizenship paperwork to satisfy Homeland Security regulations.

You'll need the following supplies (unless otherwise noted, these supplies can be found locally at Texas Aero or at our preferred online vendor, Sporty's Pilot Shop :

1. Pilot Logbook

2. Textbooks (these are available through retail sources or through the Federal Aviation Administration

    -Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge

    -Airplane Flying Handbook

3. If you're planning on flying the Cub with us, we also highly recommend "The Compleat Taildragger Pilot" by Harvey Plourde.

4. Regulation Publication

    -FAR/AIM

5. Navigational Tools

-E6B Flight Computer (Analog version required)

    -Plotter (Rotary-scale required)

-You'll also need to buy some date-sensitive chart materials, so we'll fill you in when the time comes.

6. Test Preparation Tools:

    -Private Pilot Airman Certification Standards

-Knowledge Test Prep (we highly recommend the Gleim program).
